01 Oct Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease. By bringing awareness to breast cancer it gives people diagnosed with it hope and support. One out of every eight women will be affected by breast cancer in their lifetime. It is the leading cause of death for women. There is no prevention of breast cancer, but early detection can be lifesaving. Self-examinations and annual mammograms can increase survival rates.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide. Hearing the words that you have breast cancer can be devastating. There are many organizations dedicated to research and saving lives of those diagnosed with breast cancer. Some of the nationally known organizations are Pink Ribbon, Susan G. Komen, and the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Each organization does an amazing job to raise money to research prevention, detection, and treatment.
What is breast cancer? Breast cancer is a disease in which malignant (cancer) cells form in the tissues of the breast. It is considered a heterogeneous disease. Tumors can grow in breasts for as long as 10 years without being noticed. There are different forms and stages of breast cancers.
We are very fortunate to have an organization right here in Union County that helps and supports women who have been diagnosed and recovering from breast cancer. Cindy’s Hope Chest has a mission to support women battling breast cancer emotionally and financially. Their goal is to provide ways to educate, support, and encourage women while undergoing treatments. Here at Spivey Insurance Group we want to recognize all the breast cancer survivors and ones still fighting this battle. Visit Cindy’s Hope Chest to see what services they provide and read more about how the organization helps the community.
