The 4th of July is a time for celebration of freedom and liberty! It is one of the most important holidays in our history. Every year, people across the states celebrate America by using fireworks. As a known symbol of the 4th of July, fireworks have been used as a means of celebration for decades, ranging from backyard displays to cities and towns putting on a community wide event. While they are a great way to show an appreciation and light up the sky with beauty, fireworks can be extremely dangerous. No children should ever be allowed to use fireworks. Fireworks should only be in the hands of experienced adults. In order to fully enjoy an event, it is wise to put the safety of all of those involved first! Each year, Charlotte and its surrounding areas make sure to put on good firework shows for their community members. Recommended Safety Tips:
• Obey all local laws regarding the use of fireworks. Each state’s laws differ.
• Know your fireworks; read the cautionary labels and performance descriptions before igniting.
• A responsible adult SHOULD supervise all firework activities. Never give fireworks to children.
• Alcohol and fireworks do not mix.
• Wear safety glasses when shooting fireworks.
• Light one firework at a time and then quickly move away.
• Use fireworks OUTDOORS in a clear area; away from buildings and vehicles.
• Never relight a “dud” firework. Wait 20 minutes and then soak it in a bucket of water.
• Always have a bucket of water and charged water hose nearby.
• Do not experiment with homemade fireworks.
• Dispose of spent fireworks by wetting them down and place in a metal trash can away from any building or combustible materials until the next day.
• Report illegal explosives to the fire or police department.
