National Boat Safety Week!

With the Summer season quickly approaching here are some tips to avoid accidents on the water. This week is National Boat Safety week and with the Memorial Day quickly approaching we want to make sure you and your family are covered.  The most common type of boating accidents occurs with a collision with another boat. To avoid this and other issues on the water here are some boating tips that will help keep you, your family, and your boat safe.

First, all boaters need to know the rules on the water. Make sure that you or the drivers are properly trained on boating safety rules. Some states follow different rules, but make sure to check the laws for the specific state you are visiting.

Some more common tips you should be following when on the water are, driving at a safe speed, complying with all signs and respecting barriers, and have a lookout that can watch for other boats and oncoming traffic. These tips are vital when operating a boat. Keeping you and your family protected is a very big priority here are Spivey Insurance Group.

Boat insurance in some states is not mandatory unless you have a bank loan that requires it but given its affordability and the potential cost of losses, why wouldn’t you want to protect your investment. With boat insurance, you’re covered for accidents that happen in or out of the water. You’re also covered for natural disasters that might damage to your boat. Typically boat insurance covers physical damage to your boat; personal property that is on your boat; liability insurance to protect you should a person be injured, or property damaged while on your boat, and towing and assistance should your boat become inoperable.

Remember the key aspects of your boat and what you will be using it for.
