How to Add a New Car to Your Auto Policy

Purchasing or leasing a new vehicle can be exciting, but also kind of stressful. With all the paperwork, taxes and registration to sort out, updating your auto insurance may seem like yet another hassle, but it’s really pretty simple! Below is a handy list of things you’ll need to know to add a new car to your auto insurance policy. We do all the heavy lifting for you. Once you’re ready, give us a call at 704-821-4460!

On what day did you purchase or lease the vehicle?

What is the make and model of your vehicle?

What’s the VIN number?

Hint: A vehicle’s VIN number is usually located inside the edge of the driver’s door.

Did you lease or purchase the vehicle?

When you’re insuring a leased vehicle, the laws and regulations about how much coverage you’re required to have are different from a vehicle you own.

Are there any new drivers?

If the new vehicle is for your teenager, you want to make sure to let us know so we can add your new driver to your policy along with the new car.

Are you turning in old tags from the car? Do you have any vehicles to take off the auto policy?

Getting a new vehicle is an especially stressful time when you have to make a decision quickly because of an old vehicle wrecking or breaking down. If this happened to you, we’re so sorry! We hope if you’re taking a vehicle off your policy you’re just getting an upgrade. Either way, be sure to let us know!

Please do keep in mind to always call your agent to make the change to your policy. The car dealership may offer to take care of it for you, but their expertise is selling vehicles, not handling insurance. We’ll make sure everything is in order, and if the change increases your rate, we can work with you to help find discounts.

We’re here to make changes to your insurance as easy and simple for you as possible. Give us a call at 704-821-4460 and you’ll be cruising in your new, properly insured ride in no time!
