August Partner of the Month: Union County Community Shelter

Spivey Insurance Group likes to recognize one our clients each month and feature them as the partner of the month. This August, we would like to recognize a local non-profit in the area, The Union County Community Shelter.

The Union County Community Shelter provides food, emergency shelter and instruction to those individuals and families in need within the community. They promote a pathway to self-sufficiency which includes income stabilization and permanent housing.

There is a lot of history on the beginnings on the shelter. The Union County Community Shelter was operated by Crisis Assistance from 1985 to 1994 as a winter shelter with maximum capacity of 15 male clients. A 1992 study of homelessness in Union County indicated the number of homeless was increasing. The need for comprehensive services to assist those individuals and families was evident. The Union County Council on Homeless Prevention formed in 1994, became a United Way Agency and expanded the months of operation. The meal program was added in 1995, and plans to expand to include women and families were developed.

One of their large fundraising events is called Boots and Bowties at Aw Shucks farm on September 15th. Every year they have a great turnout and raise large amount of money for the community. Below is a photo of the Spivey crew enjoying the event from last year. Click HERE to find more information about the event this year.

They are located at  311 E. Jefferson Street Monroe, NC 28112-4825 and their phone number is (704) 289-5300. They look forward to serving the community!!
