Celebrating Mother’s Day During a Pandemic

One of the worst things this pandemic has done is separate us from our loved ones. Many of us are unable to visit our moms and are forced to rethink how we’re going to celebrate Mother’s Day this weekend. While there’s no substitute for the hugs we’re craving right now, there are ways we can still connect to each other. Here are a few ideas for giving your mom something special or having fun with her remotely this Mother’s Day.

Host a Zoom Meeting

They aren’t just for work! Go ahead and have a Zoom meeting with your mom to play a game, have a drink together, or just talk. The great thing about Zoom is you can have multiple people on. Get everybody in the family on and have a party!

Send an eGift card

Many retailers offer virtual gift cards. Your mom can pick out something nice for herself that she didn’t even realize she was able to purchase because of the pandemic.

Have Flowers Delivered

Luckily, most businesses that have the ability to deliver have remained open for that service. Even if you can’t give your mom a bouquet of her favorite flowers in person, she’ll be delighted to get them regardless.

Write a Letter

There’s something about a handwritten letter that’s more personal than saying “I love you” in an email or text message. Tell your mom how much she means to you the old-fashioned way.

Watch a Movie or Show Together Remotely

Netflix Party allows you to synchronize videos so you can have a movie night (or morning or afternoon) with your mom and chat at the same time.

Decorate Her Front Door

An option if you’re a reasonable driving distance from your mom, creating a wreath or floral arrangement to decorate the front of her home is a great way to surprise her with a special gift.

Take a Virtual Tour

Lots of museums, zoos, aquariums and other points of interest are offering beautiful virtual tours of their facilities. Call your mom and view one at the same time for an unforgettable “shared” experience.

Go Through Family Photos

With most of our photos being digital now, it’s easier than ever to create and share albums. Catch up with your mom by reviewing all the fun you’ve had together the past few years.

At Spivey Insurance, nothing is more important to us than family, and we know our friends feel the same way.
