Motorcycle Safety for the Summer

With the warm weather we’ve had in the Carolina’s it makes the perfect time to jump on the motorcycle and go riding. Riding a motorcycle can be a lot of fun, but the right precautions need to be taken in order to have the safest ride possible. Before you hit the road to cruise on your bike, give your bike a quick inspection.

• Test the lights, brakes, and turn signals.
• Check the oil and fuel levels.
• Position mirrors correctly.
• Check the cables to make sure they aren’t worn.
• Try a rider-training course to brush up on your skills.

Riding a motorcycle can be a huge adrenaline rush, but that doesn’t give the driver a pass to disobey the laws of the road. Always wear a helmet. Some states don’t require the drivers or passengers to wear a helmet, but in case of an accident it is best to be prepared. Know your bike’s limit. It can be easy to get carried away, but always obey the speed limit. Use your turn signals appropriately. Let other drivers know that you are changing lanes and turning. Be respectful of other drivers and avoid weaving in and out of traffic. Every driver of a motor vehicle needs to be on the lookout for motorcyclists. Often times it can be hard to see them so be sure to check your blind spots. It is very important to have motorcycle insurance when owning a bike. Insurance rates can vary from local companies to national ones because policies and laws differ in each state. Typically, liability, medical, collision and comprehensive coverage are the aspects of protection that are required for your motorcycle.
