03 Nov Why No Shave November Really Matters
The month of October went by in the blink of an eye. We are now in the month of November and that means Thanksgiving is only a few weeks away. November has become notable for another thing besides turkeys and those Thanksgiving feasts that we all love. No Shave November is more than just men not shaving for the entire month of November, but it actually serves a purpose. It is a unique way to raise awareness for cancer. No Shave November is a fun way to get everyone involved, but gets men talking about serious issues. Men can let their beards grow wild and free and not have to worry about sprucing up themselves. The American Cancer Society says donate the money you usually spend on shaving and grooming for a month to educate about cancer prevention, save lives, and aid those fighting the battle.
In 2004, the Movember Foundation was founded and is now the leading global organization committed to changing the face of men’s health. Like the American Cancer Society, it encourages men to go the month of November without shaving to raise awareness for different types of cancer and mental health problems for men. In the past years it has become a tradition that most men look forward to. The “Movember” movement focuses on men not shaving their mustaches and it started back in 2003 in Australia. Through the use of social media campaigns it has expanded into a global phenomenon. Over 4 million men annually participate in the event and the Movember Foundation has raised $559 million.
