14 May What Boat Insurance Covers
In North Carolina, we are entering Phase 1 of the reopening process. Now, more than ever, everyone is eager to get out, enjoy the beautiful weather, see their friends and socialize again. But with our bars, restaurants and entertainment venues remaining closed, we are restricted to small, outdoor gatherings. Luckily for us, North Carolina is full of gorgeous parks and waterways that we can enjoy!
Having fun in your boat is an activity you can enjoy with your friends and family that doesn’t violate any stay-at-home restrictions. Whether you own a small craft like a canoe or kayak, something as big as a yacht, or anything in between, with the right boat insurance policy you’ll know your asset is protected.
At Spivey Insurance, we’ll work with you to figure out what policy would be best for you. To give you an idea of what you’re getting, here are the common coverages that boat insurance policies include:
Physical Damage
Just like any other vehicle, boats can become damaged or destroyed due to collision, theft, fire, vandalism or bad weather. Boat insurance covers repair or replacement costs for your boat, trailer, motor and other equipment.
Liability
If you’re held legally responsible for a boating accident, liability coverage will pay for any property damage and/or bodily injury.
Medical Payments
If someone becomes injured because of a boating accident, boat insurance will cover the cost of their medical bills.
Boatowners policies, which typically cover boats that are smaller than 26 feet long, and yacht policies, which cover boats longer than 26 feet, both include these three essential coverages. Some other coverages which we sometimes recommend are:
Additional Items Coverage
Physical damage coverage protects your boat and all the equipment needed to operate it, but not personal items you may have on board with you, such as cell phones or fishing rods. It is an option to have those items covered as well.
Roadside Assistance and On-Water Towing
If you’re stranded out on the water, or you’re towing your boat and break down, insurance can cover the cost of being rescued.
We want you to have a great time out on the water and to have peace of mind knowing you’re protected in case of any boating mishaps.
