If You Move, Does Your Homeowners Policy Follow You?

One of everyone’s least liked activities of all time is moving. We’ve all had to do it at one time or another.

We either have to move ourselves or help a family member move. Don’t you just hate when you get a call from someone and they tell you they are moving and you just know you are going to have to help?

I think I’d rather just give them some money so they can hire someone.

Maybe you’ve moved a child into college. Not fun, plus you are sad.

Especially not fun if there is a catastrophe during the move and you discover your stuff is not protected financially.

Ok, here’s the deal, under normal circumstances, your homeowner’s or renter’s insurance covers all your belongings.

However, when you move from one address to another, it’s important that you know your homeowners policy does not automatically follow you.

To protect yourself, you must make sure there is no gap in coverage from one address to another. Let me state that again, Do not let your coverage have a gap from one address to another. This is so very important to understand.

The best way to handle this is to have your new policy start on the day you plan on moving. A quick phone call to our office to speak with an agent and you are covered.

Spivey Insurance has been advising and covering families who move since 1989.
