Light it Up Blue Month for Autism Awareness

All across the country companies, people, and local communities support the month of April and support Autism Speaks. The month of April is dedicated to focusing on sharing positive, informative, and respectful information about autism and autistic people. Autism Awareness Month spreads the word that autism is both a neurological disability and a natural part of human diversity.

According to Autismspeaks.org 1 in 68 children are diagnosed with some form of autism. Boys are nearly five times more likely than girls to have autism. Each form of autism is different. Autism spectrum disorders are diagnosed in one in 110 children in the United States, affecting four times as many boys as girls. The prevalence of autism increased 57 percent from 2002 to 2006. No matter what every person diagnosed with autism should be treated with unconditional love and respect like others. Autism does not define someone, but only makes him or her unique in their own way. There are several organizations today that are dedicated to raising money and awareness to improving the lives of those diagnosed with autism. Autism should not only be a concern in month of April, but each and every day.

There are several national partners across the country that support Autism speaks. One major one is the Alpha Xi Delta sorority. During the month of April chapters all across the country “Light it Up Blue” to support Autism awareness. They also have philanthropic events to raise money for this cause. Other partners across the country that support Autism Speaks it T.J Maxx, Dollar General, Mcalister’s Deli, Home Depot, Panera Bread, and Build-a-Bear workshop.
